Unfortunately the onus is on the homeowner to secure their property and make it as difficult as possible for anybody to break in. If you have a holiday home the onus is definitely on you to make it secure and there are local companies who can help there with giving advice and supplying the locking mechanisms to increase security. There are also companies who provide alarms, lighting and cameras. Also very advisable if you have a holiday home to get a quality keyholding company to visit your property on a regular basis to do a security check.Most of the above would also apply if you’re living here full time.

For the CRA to become involved we would have to deal with changing the Spanish Constitution and that would not be an easy task as you no doubt are conversant with the costs associated with taking a case to court and we do not have pots of gold to take up every challenge.
