Voting Rights
The Padrón registration service will be very important for anyone wishing to vote in next year’s Municipal Election which will be possible only as long as they are registered on the Padrón and have expressed a wish to vote, this can be done through the Padrón registration service , however as currently the UK is expected to leave the E.U. two months before the election, the Spanish Electoral Census Office has confirmed that UK nationals currently remain eligible to register to vote in the next local elections which will be held in May 2019. If you wish to vote in those elections you must declare your intention to vote before the deadline of 30 January 2019.
Registering on the padrón (see below) if you are not already and confirming your wish to vote can be done at Mazarrón Town Hall and once a week at the Camposol Social Centre on Sector B, (details to be announced).
Citizens of Countries with reciprocal voting agreements with Spain, which includes Norway and New Zealand, will also be able to vote in the municipal elections of 2019, but must be registered on the Padrón and have declared their wish to vote between 1st December 2018 and 15th January 2019, letters are due to be sent by the Electoral Census Office to those registered on the padrón but not on the voting list, although if a letter is not received before the end of December it may be prudent to seek confirmation with Mazarrón Town Hall.
